Picking Up A Used Military Hummer Print E-mail

When you see a Hummer on the streets, you might not know that these giant off-road SUVs have a military origin, as their all-terrain capabilities made them useful military vehicles in exercises, conflicts, and even wars. The military Hummer, also known as HMMWV (High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle) or Humvee, is still currently used in service with the United States armed forces.

There are several varieties of the Humvee, and they are used as cargo carriers, troop carriers, ambulances, automatic weapons platforms, howitzer prime movers, and other forms of missile platforms. Many of them are armed with machine guns and grenade launchers, however you're definitely not going to see those types of weapons on the "street legal" versions of the Hummer.

Unfortunately, unless you happen to run your own government, you won't have an easy time purchasing a military Hummer. There are ways to purchase non-functional and non-weapons equipped military Humvees, such as intergovernmental agencies, military surplus dealers, or maybe a military Hummer auction, but you'll find some challenges in buying one as even the used ones remain popular for use in military action. You might just be better off picking up a nice H1, and customizing it to give it a more military feel, if that's what you're after.
